Style Post: Cape Day

Guess what? I finally found the perfect pair of leggings. Perfect means fitted, comfy at the waist, and high enough around the waist to sort of hold it all in. I plan to wear these suckers quite a bit this winter. I couldn't wait to break them in with this outfit and my vintage southwest style cape. I found this little number at the Austin City-Wide Garage Sale a while back, maybe even a year ago, for just $2. Two bucks! I think I'm more attracted to the style and shape than the color and pattern, which is probably why I've only worn it twice. But it's way fun to wear, I'm telling you.

And that green stuff I'm standing on? That's from all the rain we got right before Christmas. It's so refreshing to see something besides dry, burnt grass on the ground. And I'm loving the richness of the color.

P.S. What is everyone doing for New Year's Eve? It's been so long since I've been to an actual New Year's Eve party.

Style Post: Red Jeans and Coffee Cups

I finally found another excuse to wear red jeans on the blog. That reason is my chambray shirt. My red jeans first appeared on Laurel's blog in October, and I'm happy to bring them back! This time with my new best friend/chambray shirt.

I picked this one up from Anthropologie on my trip to visit my sis in Houston. It was one of those crazy moments when you have to have exactly what the shop girl is wearing. I already had the red jeans, but the shirt was just what I was looking for in a new chambray shirt. My favorite part has to be the split shirt tail. It's kind of whispy and fun.

I swear one of these puppy faces was inspired by poodle.

That's all for now.

Style Post: Minty Fresh

Right now Kyle and I are in Los Angeles. Our flight for New Zealand leaves around 11 p.m. and we're just passing the time by hanging out with Kyle's dear friends, some who we even just saw at the wedding!

The weather is cool and crisp here. I was so tempted to pack all my favorite layering pieces for our 1-day stay. Too bad layers aren't exactly fitting for the Australia/New Zealand summer. But I've got one more fall fashion post for you before I go on another binge full of denim cut-off shorts, strappy sandals, and loose, light-weight tops.

I wore this outfit a couple of weeks ago right before the wedding, just when it started to feel like fall in Austin. It was 55 or so degrees early in the morning and my mint blue wooly sweater was just begging to be worn. I immediately took advantage of this opportunity to actually dress for fall in Texas. So off with a wool sweater, jeans, and boots I went.

Along with my cripsy clean minty fresh sweater, I sported a brand new do. I had just paid a visit to my hair stylist to get my locks in tip-top shape for the wedding. We went with a light trim and a darker, richer shade of brown. Finally a good hair day.

All the clutches I own are pretty casual, so I knew I needed something more versatile that I could use day or night. I thought this metallic gold one from Madewell would go with any casual or evening look. Plus, it's shimmery.

Thanks for sticking with me while I'm "out of the office." Stay tuned for a few outfit, food, and adventure posts from Australia and New Zealand!

P.S. We're still taking recommendations for places to go, eat, and shop while we're over here!

Style Post: I'm All About the Scarves

I'm all about scarves this week. Why do I love them? Because they are one of the easiest ways to jazz up a bag, neck, hair-do, or complete outfit.

Earlier this week I wrote about how I'm craving more unique silk and vintage scarves. And that's where this post comes in! I found this adorable silk scarf at my new favorite vintage boutique, Feathers (read about one of my other favorite Feathers finds). I was immediately drawn to the color combo: a luscious brown that reminds me coffee with good creamer and bright blue.

I was in the mood for a styled, easy-going look that still had a bold element or two. I think the bright, loosely hanging scarf helped me achieve just that.

I was also in the mood for a new hair style. Lately I've been experimenting with middle parts and braids. My next challenge was working two braids into a figure eight just above the nape.

Fun times. In other news, we are well under the 30-day wedding mark. Kyle and I both feel VERY, VERY busy, but also very, very organized and excited for the day to arrive.

Thanks to all our friends and family who've been overwhelmingly supportive and continuously offered to help. While it's a busy time, everything seems pretty manageable, which is one of the perks of having a really long engagement, I'd say!

Have a wonderful day!

A Nice Day for Neutrals and New Glasses

Now that we're well into September, I don't feel so bad wearing lace-up boots and heavier shirts. Well, not too heavy at least. A couple of weeks ago I picked up this silk number at Dog & Pony, a little boutique here in Austin that sells carefully pre-owned owned clothes and jewelry from my favorite designer, Erica Weiner.

This over-sized silk top is the perfect weight. It's more than comfortable for slightly warmer weather and I know it will be cozy and great for layering as it gets cooler.

Oh, and as for those things on my face? Those are my new glasses! Aren't they fun?

And then there are the boots. I picked these babies up from Madewell as soon as it launched the fall collection. I have a feeling I'm going to be wearing them a lot this season, as I do with most of my Madewell shoes. These boots are comfortable as ever.

I'm oh so ready for fall, layers, and cooler weather. What about you?
