An Illustrated Fall by Hannah Fenves

My girl Hannah recently put together another series of sketches in the spirit of fall. (Remember her summer sketches? So cute!) I love the personal inspiration behind this collection. Don't you think these would look darling on little cards and stationary? Here's what Hannah said about this series:

Fall reminds me of my dad taking me and my sister on "leaf walks" where we would inspect the different colors and shapes of the fallen leaves. Fall reminds me of the plaid flannel shirts my dad would wear when raking the front yard and let me jump into the HUGE pile. Fall reminds me of going to the local pumpkin patch and picking out a "jack-o-lantern pumpkin" and a "pie pumpkin." Fall reminds me of petting the farm dogs at the pumpkin patch that would lay in the sun with straw sticking out of their fur. Even though the temperature gets chilly, fall always seems so warm with the colors and delights that reflect the season.
Check out Hannah's Etsy shop where you can see more of creations. And keep an eye out for cards with her fall sketches on them very soon!

This, I Like

I'm completely enamored with the online shop Leif. Have you heard of it? It's full of some of the most darling treasures and small things. I've become such a fan of small shops and boutiques that really take the time to curate a distinct collection. It can be clothing, men's shoes or just knick knacks for the home. I love any and all of the above when the collection can paint a picture of the curator. I love it even more if it's a curator I can connect with and one I can admire. That's how I feel about Stacy Longenecker of Leif. She's got the goods and here are a few things I really like:

Electric Love

Oh man. I am loving these beauties by Electric Love. These gorgeous dreamcatcher-like things are handmade in Brooklyn. All the leather, feathers and natural elements are mesmerizing in these designs. I do love the designers' interpretation of a dreamcatcher, but the wider piece in the first photo is very intriguing as well! It packs a huge punch with the extra large branch and all that movement.

Those are my top three. Hit up Electric Love to check out the rest.

Cozy Throws

Details, people. Right now I'm on the hunt for the perfect living room throw. Something basic but colorful. Something that pops but doesn't clash with the mellow vibe of the room. But the most important thing? Coziness. Yes, indeed.

I'm into all of these, but which one do I choose?!

This, I Like

I feel like I've been loving a lot of things on the blog this week! Maybe it's because of that Recharge I had on Monday. Allergies are no fun, and I'm happy to be through with that mess. I'm kicking off my weekend with a post about things I fell in love with this week! Here's to ...

Wide-brimmed hats and angular bobs.

Metallic gold elbow pads.

Tan wallets and supple leather.

Pumpkin chai donuts.

Severe shift dresses in neutral hues and big dots.

This stuff, I like. Have a great weekend!

Pillows & Other Details

All the house details are coming together, but very slowly. We can't afford to rush into anything, so we're really trying to take our time with every room and every piece we pick for the house. Lately I've been focusing on the living room and little details to make it feel cozy and extra special. I already have a few pieces of vintage-inspired art on the walls mixed with a few modern pieces of furniture. Now I'm choosing pillows and more textured pieces to bring in more color and an extra splash of energy.

I've been inspired by kilim rugs and pillows, cacti and metal or wood pieces adorned with leather.

What are your favorite details in your home?

Color Happy: All Kinds of Pink

How was your weekend? Kyle was off at a friend's wedding in Sonoma (lovely!), so it was just me and poodle holding down the fort. I worked a little, made a few things and played with friends. But I mostly just tried to take advantage of the amazing weather we're having! Give me highs in the mid-80s and I'm so ready for fall!

All in all, the weekend was good, and I spent plenty of it pinning for color inspiration.

Photo 1, 2, 3 and 4

Today I'm feeling color happy for pink. All kinds of pink. It's a color I rarely wear, but it never ceases to make me happy.

Link Love: Artist Edition

The Internets have done it again! Yesterday I discovered In the Make, a cool collaboration full of interviews, photos and studio tours of artists and their creative spaces. The interview with San Francisco painter and collage artist Alison Kendall really caught my attention. I love the details the photographer captured within her studio. This artist's love for nature, vintage collectibles and other little things made me smile and rush to check out her work:

Check out the interview and the full studio tour here.

Have a beautiful weekend.

Stripes in Black and White

It's been all about black and white stripes lately. How do you take your stripes? Black and white? Or do you prefer lots of color?

Tattuesday: For the Bakers

I do love a simple tattoo like this. Even in its simplicity I get a sense of who this person is and what this person loves.

Tattuesday: Nautical

I'm very into the details of this piece. The whale in the water. The sea serpent. The beautiful border.

Tattuesday: Little Heart

Just lovely. I know I'm not brave enough to ever get a tattoo on my chest, but I can still admire one.

Tattuesday: Little Bow

I'd say this is pretty darn sweet. Or maybe it's just my infatuation with finger tats and the like.

Tattuesday: Peony Hipster

Hip tats. They're essentially hidden for the most part, so it's like your own piece of private and personal art. I like the idea of having something really beautiful like this, just for yourself.

For Our Walls

I hope you're loving all the house-related posts this week. Decorating and homemaking are about the only things I can focus on right now. Outfit posts, food posts and DIYs will be back soon once I have things like a fridge and a desk to work with.

Until then, it's house stuff. I've been thinking about details a lot lately, mostly because I don't want to rush into buying a whole bunch of things until we know exactly what we want. We're taking our time to make sure each and every piece we buy has a purpose and aligns with our vision for the space. I spent some time on Pinterest last night and got plenty of ideas for our walls.

Like these Inflated Deflated prints. Bloggers are all over these, and I can see why! A cute little series in a variety of colors and messages would be sweet for a hallway, my office or maybe even a funky bathroom. Talk about cool eye candy!
While I love these prints, I'm probably more likely to go with something a little more vintage-inspired. The look we're going for is sort of "modern classic" meets "cozy Austin," which could be open to interpretation. We love old maps and natural things, so I'm feeling more drawn to the pins below. I think they create a nice balance with the "masculine/history buff" look and girly details in the book covers and wall flowers.

Tattuesday: Kitty Cat

I totally adorbs this kitty cat tattoo. And I'm not really a "cat for a pet" kinda person. Don't get me wrong. Love cats, especially cat tattoos, portraits, and the like. Kyle and I are just poodle people. That's all.

But I still think cats are cute, okay?

An Illustrated Summer by Hannah Fenves

I want to introduce you all to someone. My friend Hannah is the cutest person. She's a graphic designer, letterer, illustrator, and Madewell lover. I think we could be two peas in a pod except that her illustrations are just way cuter than anything I could whip up.

A few weeks ago she started tweeting these adorable summer sketches and all I want to do today is share them with you. Here's what Hannah had to say about the inspiration behind her little series:

Basically, as a kid growing up in Northern California, summer meant swim team, sunscreen, and saltwater sandals. So I wanted to recreate my best childhood memories with these simple sketches that turned into being quite a collection!

Thanks for sharing your work with us today, Hannah! I hope to share more very, very soon!

Tattuesday: Lucy & Orla

Happy Tattuesday! I kicked off this series last week and the response has been great! Can't wait to share more awesome and adorable tattoos with you!

I've had this image stashed away for a quite a while. Betsy Dunlap is a wonderful calligrapher. You've probably seen her work around the interwebs and on various wedding blogs. She even created a little piece for us in honor of our wedding date!

Let's just say I'm a huge fan, and I was floored and excited when I saw this image of script she put together for a tattoo.

You can read the story behind the tattoo on Betsy's blog. It's incredibly sweet.

Color Happy: Almost Primaries

It's been a while since I've gushed over color combinations on the blog. Lately, I've been falling for the basics -- blues, reds, and yellows -- and slight variations of their primary families. It all started with this photo of Kate Spade nail polish by Oh Joy! The colors are darling, and I love how these ladies (below) wear them alone or as a powerful trio of hues.

Tattuesday: Finger Tats

Confession! I have tattoos. My parents hate 'em, but Kyle and I love 'em. I'm always getting inspired and excited about all the cute tattoos I find on Pinterest. They're just too fun, and people really do come up with some pretty nifty and creative body art ideas.

This love for tattoos just inspired a new series. "Tattuesday" we'll call it, and we're kicking it off with the hardcore but equally sweet finger tats that belong to Kate Foley, buyer for Opening Ceremony.

I like 'em! This photo was shot by Mark Iantosca for a Refinery29 feature about Foley's pretty great and stylish home.

Here's another pretty photo of Foley's finger tats by Garance Dore.
